This ancient Chinese exercise program is designed to help reduce stress, improve mental concentration, flexibility, balance and coordination. Focused breathing techniques are utilized. Tai Chi provides training in proper body mechanics and natural alignment. It fosters a relaxed body and a peaceful state of mind.

Learn the gentle Feldenkrais Method to improve energy, reduce stress, breath more easily, and move with more pleasure, ease and grace. Become aware of your body and your unhealthy and unnecessary movement habits. Learn more comfortable and efficient alternatives. This class does not involve stretching or vigorous exercise, and it is taught with a “less is more” attitude.

Wii

We now have Nintendo’s Wii and a variety of gaming options available for our members’ use. These games (e.g. tennis and bowling) are a fun, socially interactive way to keep our brain cells charging. Should you like a demo or would just like to play with your friends, reserve a time with our registration staff.

Ping Pong Table

At the urging of many members, we have purchased a new Ping Pong table and equipment that can be used in the Members B room on Tuesday and Friday afternoons when other programs are not scheduled. Reservations are required. Please check with the front desk for room availability. People interested in regular play or in forming leagues, please contact Howard Patterson (847-945-9281)

Golf League News

The Men’s League Championship will be played on Monday, September 15 with the End of Season Banquet held on Monday, September 22. Organized play will continue through the fall until the snows fall! The Women’s League Award Luncheon will be held on Monday, September 22nd.

 

Coed Bocce

League play begins in November at Highwood Bocce Courts at 9:30 a.m. Play is on the first and third Wednesday of each month through March of 2009. Please contact the center office to be placed on the interest list or contact Bob Fincutter (847-948-9523) for more information.

 

Coed Bowling

League play begins in November and continues every Monday at Brunswick/Deerbrook Lanes at 12:30 pm. Please contact the center office to be placed on the interest list or contact Bill Balmes (847-317-0343) for more information.

Billiards

Mah Jongg Instruction

This ancient Chinese game is a fast-paced, entertaining game similar to a card game, but using colorful tiles held in racks. You’ll enjoy the clicking and scrambling of the tiles as you master the various strategies of this fascinating game. If you have a Mah Jongg set, please bring it with you. You will need a 2008 Mah Jongg card to play. These cards can be found at many local card stores.

Section #01, the third and final section of our beginning bridge series, will be based on the Audrey Grant’s Heart Series—Defense. At the completion of this course, you should have developed a solid basic bridge skill set. Section #02, Supervised Play, will help you develop confidence in your newly acquired skills. This will be an opportunity for you to play bridge with “training wheels”! Al Glick—our “Answer Man”—will guide you and give advice in this supervised play environment.
